    A legendary event in the incredible 60-year history of the Rolling Stones is being released in full for the first time on Friday, April 29th.

    Live At The El Mocambo marks the first official appearance of the group's two famous secret concerts at the 300-capacity Toronto club in March 1977.

    It features the Stones' full set from the March 5 show, plus three bonus tracks from the March 4 gig, newly mixed by Bob Clearmountain.

    Only four of the performances found their way onto the Love You Live album that followed in September 1977,

    which was dominated by tracks captured on the band's 1975 and '76 tours, with the full set having never been heard before.

    As the Stones took to the stage of the “El Mo,” a fixture of the Toronto music scene since the 1940s, punk and disco were both rearing into full view,

    supposedly ready to see off a band who had already been at the top of their game for 15 years. Over two nights, in an intimate space in one of their favourite cities,

    they were about to make that prognosis look foolish indeed.

    The gigs became reality after the El Mocambo was identified as the potential home for a secret booking.

    A radio contest was organised in which the prize was tickets to see Canadian rock heroes April Wine, supported by an unknown band called the Cockroaches.

    Guess who they turned out to be...

    On the nights, naturally, April Wine were themselves the opening act, and so it was that the Stones rolled back the years to the exhilarating club incarnation of their early years.

    Against all the odds, the band produced two nights of exhilarating music that they still talk about in Toronto, and in Rolling Stones legend, to this day.

    It was a setlist for all seasons, from Muddy Waters' 'Mannish Boy' and Bo Diddley's 'Crackin' Up' to staples such as 'Let's Spend The Night Together' and 'Tumbling Dice,'

    and back to the blues with Big Maceo's 'Worried Life Blues' and Willie Dixon's 'Little Red Rooster.'

    There was the live debut of 'Worried About You,' not heard in studio form until 1981's Tattoo You, and more highlights from 'Honky Tonk Woman' to 'Hot Stuff.'

    Forty-five years on, this is a trip back to the intensity of the Crawdaddy Club in the Stones' earliest days, as revisited by the greatest rock 'n' roll band in the world.

    Ein legendäres Ereignis in der unglaublichen 60-jährigen Geschichte der Rolling Stones wird zum ersten Mal in voller Länge veröffentlicht.



    "Live At The El Mocambo" markiert die erste offizielle Veröffentlichung der beiden berühmten Geheimkonzerte der Gruppe in dem 300 Personen fassenden Club in Toronto im März 1977.

    Es enthält das komplette Set der Stones vom 5. März sowie drei Bonustracks vom 4. März, die von Bob Clearmountain neu abgemischt wurden. Nur vier der Auftritte fanden ihren Weg auf das Album "Love You Live", das im September 1977 folgte, auf dem vor allem Aufnahmen von den Tourneen 1975 und 1976 zu hören waren, während das komplette Set noch nie zuvor zu hören war.



    Als die Stones die Bühne des "El Mo" betraten, das seit den 1940er Jahren ein fester Bestandteil der Musikszene Torontos ist, waren Punk und Disco bereits in vollem Gange. Sie waren wohl bereit, eine Band zu verabschieden, die bereits seit 15 Jahren an der Spitze ihres Spiels stand. An zwei Abenden, in einem intimen Rahmen in einer ihrer Lieblingsstädte, sollten sie diese Prognose in der Tat töricht aussehen lassen.



    Die Auftritte wurden Wirklichkeit, nachdem das El Mocambo als potenzieller Ort für ein geheimes Booking ausgemacht worden war. Im Rahmen eines Radiowettbewerbs wurden Eintrittskarten für die kanadischen Rockhelden April Wine verlost, die von einer unbekannten Band namens The Cockroaches unterstützt wurden.

    An den Abenden waren April Wine natürlich selbst die Vorgruppe, und so kam es, dass die Stones die Jahre zurückdrehten zu der aufregenden Club-Inkarnation ihrer frühen Jahre. Allen Widrigkeiten zum Trotz produzierte die Band zwei Abende mit berauschender Musik, über die man in Toronto und in der Rolling-Stones-Legende bis heute spricht.



    Es war eine Setlist für alle Jahreszeiten, von Muddy Waters' 'Mannish Boy' und Bo Diddleys 'Crackin' Up' bis zu Klassikern wie 'Let's Spend The Night Together' und 'Tumbling Dice' und zurück zum Blues mit Big Maceos "Worried Life Blues" und Willie Dixons "Little Red Rooster".

    Es gab das Live-Debüt von "Worried About You", das in Studioform erst 1981 auf "Tattoo You" zu hören war, und weitere Highlights von "Honky Tonk Woman" bis "Hot Stuff".



    Fünfundvierzig Jahre später ist dies eine Reise zurück zur Intensität des Crawdaddy Clubs in den frühesten Tagen der Stones, wie sie von der größten Rock'n'Roll-Band der Welt wiedererlebt wurde.

Vor einigen Jahren habe ich eine mit Stoneszunge in Bologna gesehen und gezögert. Später habe ich mich geärgert, denn so etwas war nirgends zu finden. Jetzt freue ich mich, wenn meine Beatles -Platten von der Stones-Zunge angeleckt werden grin.gifdevil.gif
