The only time affable Johnson gets riled is when he's informed of a petition from diehard AC/DC fans angry that the band play the same set every night on their Black Ice tour - which becomes an issue when fans travel the world seeing multiple shows. Their letter, directed to the band, said the diehard fans felt the setlist catered for casual fans: "They may cheer at the concerts, they may go home happy ... but they only came to hear Thunderstruck. They don't eat, sleep and s--AC/DC like we do.''
"F--- them!'' Johnson says. "What about the fans who haven't heard them? There are a few cocky fans. A lot of people now with the computers, they sit on their fat a---s in their house somewhere going 'Oh they played that song last night, they should change it'. Well, bollocks to you. I don't think they realise changing a song in a set now is not the same as it used to be. "When you include all the lighting guys, the stagehands, the technicians - there are 85 guys who have to know what's happening if you change a song.
"It's all right for me to be cute and go Let's do What's Next to the Moon tonight' and the lighting guy gets f---ed over. It's just the way it is. "It's tough.'' The singer recalls a fan in Germany even tracked him down in a hotel to discuss their setlists. "People come along a few times and suddenly they're your boss. Of course it's difficult. I wish I could last four hours, I'd do as much as I could, but you'd still get a complaint,'' he says. [...]
"We're still doing some of the really old stuff, like the first album, The Jack, Shot Down in Flames. We're not daft. We realise the fans like the old songs like TNT, that's still massive. "But boy, it ticks me off when people start petitions. We're not a political party, we're just a rock 'n' roll band out for a bit of fun.''
The Jack, Shot Down In Flames.

Brian Johnsson, Let there be light?
