Reply to voodookeef: well thats true, the main thing is if you personally liked it or not, enjoyed it or not. Yet it also must be said that SOME posts are worth reading as some are educational or informative about Keith, his playing, the band's playing, etc -- I would say just like polkaheld's post above -- there were details there that I don't always consider or think of. I don't think it is a case of love the Stones or stay home and save your money. I think you can love them and still make observations or criticisms. This is not about complete loyalty. Reminds me of a saying amongst American conservatives during the Vietnam War -- "America -- love it or leave it." Well, life ain't that black and white. Yet, I am fed up with the moaners and bitchers too. There is such a thing and a place for such a thing as intelligent commentary and intelligent criticism.

A have `stolen` this sentences from IOOR but that is exacty what I feel.

Reply to Hase63: that quote was from BV, the head of IORR.

Polkaheld wrote: In 2007 I attended the second show only, in Nijmegen. There is quite a good bootleg of the show called 'Prisoners of Love' on IORR, if you want to listen to it. Obviously Keith was not on his best that night. He did loads of mistakes to be honest. And I mean heavy mistakes and not just some funny inaccuracies. There was a blackout at the beginning of Happy, when he seemed to be absolutely disoriented for nearly 30 seconds. The intro of Brown Sugar was a mess. Plus his usual inaccuracies during the solo of You Got Me Rocking for example.

On the other hand he was shining on Start Me Up and It's Only Rock 'n' Roll. And this time I don't mean a normally good performance, but I mean really great guitar work with timing, feeling, power and licks. Not to forget the excellent interaction with Ronnie, especially on She Was Hot. And that is the difference between 2006 and 2007. In 2006 Keith was strong as usual, even after his accident. Ronnie had to fight the booze. One year later it was the other way round. Ronnie was clean, fit, really strong. But Keith seemed to have some problems. I don't know what. Maybe alcohol, weed, medicine or no sleep. But he seemed to be slow in mind, without concentration and a bit tired. It was the first time to see Keith as the weakest part of the band. And that scared me.

So I followed every review of the next shows. In Helsinki, Finland Keith was said to fall down the stage nearly. A few days later a Swedish newspaper wrote a bad story about the Stones' performance in Gothenburg. Keith was demanding an apology from Swedish press (of course, there were good reviews, too... in Denmark for example). All in all he had some health problems at that time. But it was good to see, that he got better again at the end of the 2007 tour. I listened to the last gig in Wembley, London and there he was the good old Keith again.

As far as I know, the IORR board is rather big with a huge number of members. And there are some members, who repeat to say one thing 100 times a day. "Ronnie is not as good as Mick Taylor." "They don't change the setlist." "I don't like Chuck Leavell." "They are getting old." and so on. These members are called moaners. I think, voodookeef was talking about these. Of course you can criticize the show you attended. But I think, it is also a matter of the point of view. You can emphasize the good things or the bad things. And I always emphasize the good things, because I want to be happy during and after a Rock show or a soccer match or any other hobby. I don't need a hobby that makes me angry or sad. I can get angry and sad in other parts of my life, if I want to. But a hobby is fun.

So that's why I like the Nijmegen show very much. I don't moan about the fucking weather, the lack of van Morrison's show or the one wrong single note played by Keith on She Was Hot in 1:54. I was excited of the setlist, which contained All Down The Line, She Was Hot, Sweet Virginia and Can't You Hear Me Knocking. Wunderful. I was excited to get the feeling of a live concert in front of the stage. Ronnie was excellent and also Mick. Charlie's drums delighted me more than ever.

Back to topic, back to Keith Richards. The last time he was a guitar hero was in 1989/90. At that time he was incredibly fast, playful and mobile. He slowed down after that and it fitted well. Still he was able to play a superb solo on It's All Over Now or strong licks on Flip The Switch. After the Bridges To Babylon tour Keith had changed a bit. His fingers got bad. So he can play chords and riffs as good as ever, but playing single notes or solos is now a problem for him. Also he lost the ability to sing and to play guitar simultaneously. But I mean, hey, he is 64 now. It's quite a normal thing, and Keith never cared about his health. And there is no need to be surprised. It is not like yesterday was 1972 and overnight it happened to be 2007. Last year, he had some hard weeks. Okay. Ronnie is said to have his personal low point in Cologne 2006. And on some days Mick's voice is gone. They are no robots.

You love him or you don't. I do. Last week I watched the Shine A Light movie. And Keith was all right there. His way of playing guitar and singing is just amazing to me. I don't know why. A music teacher would probably cry for other reasons. But I'm happy I found my favourite kind of music.

God, I wrote an essay in English (but it is >you< to read it, haha). Where is my cup of coffee?

Plexi's Reply to Polkaheld: That was an amazing piece of writing! Not only was your English very good (and who on this board cares about that anyway) but it was very thoughtful, balanced, wise, you obviously spent a lot of time thinking about this. It was reasoned, considered.

You are "spot on" about some of the IORR members and you hit it exactly about the types of criticisms they make, precisely: Mick Taylor, setlists (though the one bright spot is that one of those threads give birth to the PLEXIGLASS Religion), Chuck Leavell (others too like Blondie), and getting old, and like u said over and over. And yes, they are moaners, though I dont think this is limited to IORR members. Someone who is SO into and obsessed with something and knows ALL the details about their interest can just come to a weird way of thinking about their obsession and lose all perspective -- like me. And yes, voodookeef is likely talking about moaners, though again, that doesnt mean there isnt a place for criticism not just of Keith, but the whole band.

And I get so tired and angry at those ripping Ronnie and saying how great and how much better Taylor was -- well, I like Taylor and I like Ronnie, and maybe Mick was more talented than Ronnie, but the constant criticism drives me to the point where, though I love Mick Taylor, I am starting to hate him because of this constant drumbeat of the anti-Ronnie folks.

And yes, let's enjoy the good parts of every show. Though when you go to SO many shows, you find yourself comparing one show to another, you get a bit jaded and spoiled. You mentioned the weather at Nijmegen -- well, it soaked and drove voodookeef right out of the place!! I did not arrive on my long drive from Normandy til after that and the sun was shining, but I missed half the show, but then again I got in free using my Werchter wristband.

Now that was a keen, perceptive, and detailed observation about Keith's solo note playing having gone downhill. I don't know if it is true or not, it just gave me pause to think about that and maybe listen for that. I enjoyed his playing throughout the tour, yes there were bum notes, but I did not think it was really bad at any point, even though I did once see the physical effect of his prescriptions on him. I think his riffing in Its Only Rock n Roll in Europe 07 was the best on that song that I have ever heard. Right from the first show in Werchter, I noticed that, it really stood out.

Cup of Coffee? I will buy you a beer in July. Great piece!

Thanks all of you for indulging me and writing in English in your replies. You didn't have to do that. After all, this is a German board!!

U have become famous for various reasons, now it's my turn to be famous. If u are lucky, you'll win the Meet and Greet competition as organized by Steffi (that is if she doesnt win it herself, and if she did, she would get guaranteed private time with me for several hours)

ANYWAY, it sounds like u saw me in the film already, that's great! BTW, I wasnt filming, only taking digital fotos, and u have a copy of all of my Beacon fotos on disk. So no Stones mafia will be after me, I think they may come after u now!

"maybe he must have god connections to the inner circle" -- yes, you are right Dandy, I do have GOD connections to the inner circle, in this case GOD is known as THE PLEXIGLASS.

I actually did not need GOOD connections as for some reason, unlike in almost all American concerts, they did not stop people from taking fotos, for what reason I do not know. But given the opportunity, I took fotos the whole show (but only after borrowing a camera card from the pretty Marcy from New York because I had brought the wrong one; THE PLEXIGLASS was watching over me that night) (Also, I would be happy to post some of my Beacon fotos on TREFF if people want to see them).

And, the spy does indeed have a face, only it is the face of THE PLEXIGLASS! tablets carved in plexiglass and brought down from Mt. Stones as holy writ for the TREFF people, the IORR people, the Shidoobee people, ALL Stones people.

    plexi the spy

That would be fine, but that is not enough, Steff. I demand to be flown in a private jet from Split and picked up at the airport in a limo and that u all have to wait for me screaming from behind a fence. I will casually wander over, sign a few autographs, but not too many! I would CONSIDER signing your guitar, Steff, then off with a police escort to TREFFEST in Duisburg.

Oh, and Gerhard (or is it Erhard), I will need security around your house 24-7 if I am to stay there, but I might let a few female fans/female PLEXIGLASS GROUPIES/female TREFF members in for the night (sorry if it gets a little noisy in the house).

Oh, and I only want that beer from that one particular Hofbrauhaus in Munchen that I liked so well -- Steff, u probably remember the name of it. In fact, my private jet could make a quick stop in Munchen to pick up the beer and why not -- to pick up YOU Steff, then fly on to Duisburg. Then u wont have to drive.

Anyway, I will think of more details/demands later and post them!!

LOL, justkidding! but why should I -- I am a film star !
