I Saw Myself in Shine A Light Today

I was very surprised. I figured that the camera would only catch the stage and the floor level. I told my wife where I had been sitting at the second Beacon show. Loge level, front row, far left seat (far right side as the camera goes --AKA Ronnieside).

Suddenly, a short ways into All Down the Line, she says "I see you!" I look and see nothing. A couple of seconds more, the scene catches the left end (right end as the camera films) of the loge area.

I see myself standing up with my long sleeved white t shirt which reads "Stones Rock Missoula" in big black letters and my white Stones baseball cap fooling with my camera of course. She says in the first shot which I failed to see, that I was standing and watching the show.

Throughout the film, mostly from longer distances, I can see myself briefly, usually when Mick/the band is shot from behind.

The best (other) shot is when Keith is filmed from behind during Sympathy (solo?) out on the right wing and I am standing up aiming with my camera (and I think u see me during the whole process of setting up the shot and the orange light/perhaps flash going off -- will try to confirm the flash part later, I know that it happens somewhere in the film).

We just saw it in a regular, actually small, theater (maybe 16 rows total) and tomorrow eve I will see it in the Esquire IMAX in downtown Sacramento with three of my siblings.

Praise the Plexiglass! I am in a Stones film!

The opportunity to walk the red carpet, get a guitar autographed by the band, and meet the band at the New York premiere March 31 went for somewhere in excess of $25,250 yesterday.

If u look at the site -- [www.vh1auctions.com]

u will see the "last" or "latest" bid posted at 14:47:45, about 12 minutes before the expiration. However, if u look closely at the rules, the last 5 minutes could be extended indefinitely as long as higher bids kept coming in.

The package actually was for the winner and one guest and included flights and lodging.

Maybe someone else has found the final winning bid and can post it up here.

    Nein.

Kiwi doctor rolls with the Stones

Sunday Star Times | Sunday, 10 February 2008

When Auckland brain surgeon Andrew Law was at university he had a poster of Rolling Stone Keith Richards on his wall. Now his photos of the Stones are more likely to have him in them.

Law, 41, is the neurosurgeon Richards credits with saving his life after the guitarist suffered a brain injury in a fall from a tree in Fiji in April, 2006.

Since then, the men have formed a close, if unlikely, friendship, with Law spending many weeks either on the road with the Stones, or living with Richards and his family in Europe and the United States.

Law has rejected big money offers from international magazines to speak about his relationship with the man he now regards as a good mate.

But he told the Sunday Star-Times the pair "just clicked" from the time they first met at Auckland's Ascot Hospital when Law was called in to assess his celebrity patient.

"I wasn't too impressed being up at this time - it was 2am - so I just said 'What the f**k have you been up to?' I think that broke the ice. He just laughed."

But Law said the surgery on Richards' brain was far from minor.

"He was really really unwell. I told him 'I might kill you today' - he was very aware of it. He had to put his life in my hands."

Law, too, admits he was nervous before operating on one of the world's most famous rockers.

Richards not only survived, but within six weeks was well enough to rejoin the Stones' two-year world tour. Insurers demanded Law go along as well and he travelled with the group through Italy, Austria and Germany.

"Everyone was on tenterhooks thinking he'd fall over. But he's just too good for that."

The weeks on the road gave Law a rare insight into the "bizarre" lifestyle of the superstars, including being mobbed by fans and paparazzi and having to be smuggled by bodyguards into cars at the back entrances of hotels.

"They know it's bizarre. They are funny, clever people. He is a very strong-willed, intelligent, very cool and clever guy and incredibly brave. And he made me laugh."

Though Richards has brought Law into a social circle he'd previously only read about - introducing him to stars including Johnny Depp and Sienna Miller - he's also become close to Richards' wife, Patti Hansen, and his children, who are closer in age than the rocker himself, who's 64.

"We go out and have fish and chips and a beer."

He says Richards has surrounded himself with good people. "They don't cross him, they don't harm him. They look after him and most people would do anything for him."

He admits his experiences with the Stones have been "a bit surreal".

"I don't get excited by it; the thing that excited me most was that he was such an interesting guy and we got on so well. We'd travel through Europe and he'd be telling me what was going on with the Hapsburgs (Austria's ruling house). I learned from him."

He said Richards' star quality was obvious. "He has style. Even when he just gets up to make some eggs and a piece of toast."

Richards might appreciate the chance to talk to someone outside his circle, said Law. "I don't think he's run into too many neurosurgeons and I haven't run into too many rock stars."

He last saw Richards in November but they keep in touch. "He'll ring or fax and ask what I'm up to."

At the Stones' LA concert at Dodger Stadium in November 2006, Richards found a unique way to thank Law, telling the crowd of 50,000 that he wouldn't have been there without him.

"He's from New Zealand and he's my head man, you know what I mean? He fixed the thing."

The crowd gave Law a standing ovation. "He said: 'Here's one for your scrapbook, Andy.' I was standing backstage with Patti. It was a completely unexpected compliment."

But the surgeon responded just as the star would have expected. "I just said, 'You cheeky bastard!'

Well, I know who works there but who lives about 15 miles away. Something to do with a piece of plastic, but a very important piece of plastic !!!

At Ronnie Wood's book signings he did in the fall, I hoped to get one thru a lady friend who lives in London but spends a lot of time working in New York. The New York signing was the only one announced at first.

My friend from London said it might be difficult to get me one as there were a number of her British (IORR) friends who wanted her to get one for them.

Then, the London signing was announced and a lot of the Brits went personally to the signing. My friend said that now there might be a chance she could get me one.

Even then, she said it might be difficult to get one for me. There were all kinds of rules at the book signing including a limit of two books signed. Then, Ronnie might only just sign his name and nothing else -- this could be one of the rules, but she didn't know.

To make this story short, I got an e mail the night of the signing that simply said, "Plexi, you owe me one." To explain this, look at the foto below:

Of course, THE PLEXIGLASS is the most important thing here!

Who cares about the guitar case or even the guitar, in THE PLEXIGLASS can be found Nirvana.

One needs no more in life if one has THE <span style="font-family:arial;">PLEXIGLASS !

Here is the reply I got from the press office.

The premiere of "Shine a light", as the opening film of this year's Berlinale, will be reserved to invited guests. The film will be screened for the public at another time. As the programme and schedule planning is still in the making, unfortunately, I can provide you neither with the exact day and time, nor with tickets.
After our programme press conference on January 29, the film schedule as well as the ticket service will be available at our website.

Thank you for your patience and best regards,

    Katharina Neumann

    Steff:

Here are a couple of excerpts from IORR which are basically the same as your information.

The official website states that press accreditation for the festival closed a month ago. I would imagine its basically an industry thing, especially for premieres. The film will of course be screened - as its the premiere. Not sure if its being entered for competition, though.

    official website link here -

the public CAN buy tickets for entry to the 'public programme' a few days before the festival starts on February 7th. [http://www.berlinale.de]

I'm not sure (in fact I doubt very much) that 'shine a Light' would fall into that category.

I think it is important to hear what BV (Bjornulf Vik) had to say on this on January 10.

Whatever you may think of him, the man has been quite reliable over the years regarding Stones information. He obviously has strong connections within the Stones camp.

    This from IORR:

It looks like they have moved the Asia plans until 2009. This is not the first time they move Asian tours. With plans for a complete Asian tour I assume it got too complicated to do it at this stage. Still I hear rumours about NYC spring.

    Bjornulf

Generally, these days, I would expect the Stones to announce a tour any place in the world with a maximum of 2-3 months. Mind you they are getting older and they don't want to have long term commitments. They do tours bits by bits.

Large tours need scheduling and 1-3 months pre-sales in Europe and North America. For the rest of the world they might show up on one month notice, but they would need to activate crew, rehearsals and booking of venues, and there are always some leaks, so they will not just pop out from nowhere. Relax!
