    BARBRA Streisand has scrapped her first ever concert in Italy following an outcry over Italy costing £600.


    The singer had planned to launch her European tour at Rome's 24,000- seater Stadio Flaminio next month.


    But consumer groups blasted the prices of between £100 and £600 as "absurd and shameful" and called on authorities to deny her use of the venue.

    Now gig organisers have axed the show - but say the decision was not connected to the price uproar.


    Tour promoter Michael Cohl said: "We met with unexpected production delays and we deeply apologise to the fans." Critics said the stadium "is public property and cannot be used for immoral deals that are shameful to a civilised country".


    Instead of the Rome concert, Streisand will begin her tour three days later on June 18 in Zurich, Switzerland. Her gigs include London's O2 arena on July 18, Ireland, Austria and France.


    Streisand's 2006 US tour was the second highest grossing, making £45million with average ticket prices £150.

    Streisand tritt in Berlin auf

    Die amerikanische Schauspielerin und Sängerin Barbra Streisand wird nach Informationen der "Bild"-Zeitung (Dienstagausgabe) zum ersten Mal in ihrer
    vierzigjährigen Karriere in Deutschland auftreten. Wie die Zeitung unter Berufung auf den deutschen Konzertveranstalter berichtet, gibt die mit zwei Oscars und neun Grammys ausgezeichnete Künstlerin Ende Juni ein Konzert in der Berliner Waldbühne.

    Unterdessen wurde ein ursprünglich für Mitte Juni geplantes Rom-Konzert der Künstlerin nach heftiger Kritik an den hohen Eintrittspreisen abgesagt.
