  • Ms Dynamite in 100mph crash with AC/DC singer
    By Thair Shaikh
    Published: 13 November 2006
The award-winning singer Ms Dynamite was recovering in hospital last night after her car was involved in a 100mph crash during a race with the AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson.

The rear of Ms Dynamite's car was clipped on the home straight by Johnson as they competed yesterday at Silverstone, sending it spinning out of control.

Both had been filming at the Northamptonshire track for The Race, a reality programme on Sky One in which two teams of celebrity men and women competed against each other in various driving challenges.

  • Ms Dynamite's Racing Ford eventually came to a halt after 50 metres, leaving her shaken, but "conscious and talking" according to a spokesman for Sky.

Paramedics treated her in the medical centre at the circuit before she was airlifted to Northampton General Hospital. She was later transferred to the University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire, where she was kept overnight for observation.

Her injuries were not thought to be serious. Johnson, the gravelly voiced lead singer of the heavy-metal group AC/DC, was not injured in the accident.

Ms Dynamite, 25, aka Niomi McLean-Daley, has won three Mobos, the prestigious Mercury Prize and two Brit awards. She shot to fame in 2002 with her debut album, A Little Deeper, a politically charged blend of hip-hop and R&B.

She was the second celebrity to be injured while taking part in the show. Last Tuesday, Ingrid Tarrant, who is divorcing TV presenter Chris Tarrant, had to be rescued after a 4X4 three-tonne "monster truck" flipped over and landed on its roof while she was trying to drive it over a ramp.

A spokesman for Sky said of the Ms Dynamite crash: "It was quite a violent collision, but the paramedics were straight on the scene.

"She was conscious and talking and seemed to be OK. She doesn't appear to have any serious injuries, but she is bound to be very shaken."

Sky defended the programme yesterday, saying the celebrities involved had been through rigorous practical and theoretical training in preparation for the finale of The Race.

"Throughout the week they have been driving a number of high-performance vehicles. We take health and safety very seriously and cover it from every angle," a spokesman said.

Others taking part in the show, presented by Denise Van Outen, included popstar Jenny Frost and the former teenage star Melissa Joan Hart.

The male team included the former world boxing champion Nigel Benn, the actor Nick Moran and pop star Gary Numan.

Auto geriet ins Schleudern.

November 2006: Brian Johnson in a radio
interview conducted in November 2006 answered questions regarding AC/DC's
progress on their upcoming new album. Brian disclosed the fact that the band has
not yet actually begun recording the album yet, and that they have basically
used most of this time off to spend with their families. Angus and Malcolm have
been busy writing material on and off for the past few years according to Brian,
and he stated that the new album would definitely be out next year.

    December 2006:
Fifa Riccobono of Albert Music in
Australia has commented to the press regarding the new AC/DC album, confirming
that there is no release date scheduled for the release of the album at this
time, as the album has not yet been recorded.
