Bianca Jagger verliert 200.000-Euro-Ring in Salzburg

VIENNA (AFP) — A man who found a 200,000-euro ring belonging to Bianca Jagger, the former wife of Rolling Stones frontman Mick, last year in Salzburg, is now suing her for failing to pay him the promised reward.

Reinhard Ringler filed a suit Monday in a Salzburg court after Jagger refused to pay him 10,000 euros (12,788 dollars) -- five percent of the ring's value, as set out by law -- for finding the precious jewel, which she had lost during a stay in the city.

Jagger claims that Ringler took too long to return the ring and is thus not entitled to a reward.

The platinum-and-aquamarine ring, which Jagger had designed herself, was lost on August 22 but only returned to police in early September.

Ringler said he gave the ring, which he had found in front of a Salzburg hotel, to his 13-year-old daughter, thinking it was worthless and only realised its value upon returning from holiday and seeing reports in the press.

He brought the ring to police within eight days of the reports.

Jagger, a human rights activist, made an alternative offer in November to pay 9,000 euros to Amnesty International and the remaining 1,000 euros to Ringler's daughter, according to her Austrian lawyer Gabriel Lansky.

But negotiations between the parties failed.

The civil suit will go to court on May 4. If Jagger loses, she will have to pay 19,000 euros, including court and lawyers' fees.
